What to Write in 'About Myself' in a Marriage Biodata (Examples)
Writing·5 min read
Most biodatas are tables of facts — which is exactly why two or three good lines about who you actually are stand out. The “About Myself” section (added as a custom field or custom section in our editor) is where a biodata stops being a form and starts being a person. Here is how to write it without sounding either boastful or generic.
The formula: one line each
- Temperament: how you actually are day to day.
- Interests: one or two specific things you do, with evidence.
- Values / lifestyle: the things a future partner genuinely needs to know.
Good vs bad, side by side
Weak (says nothing)
- About
- I am simple, honest and caring.
- Hobbies
- Music, movies, travelling.
- Lifestyle
- Modern with traditional values.
Strong (says something real)
- About
- Calm and practical; the one who plans the family trips and remembers the birthdays.
- Hobbies
- Trained Kathak dancer (8 years); weekend baker — my rasmalai cake has a fan following.
- Lifestyle
- Vegetarian, early riser, close to my parents; comfortable in both saree and sneakers.
Notice the difference: the strong version is specific and verifiable. Anyone can claim to be “caring”; only a real person plans the family trips. Specifics also give the other family something natural to open the first conversation with.
Rules worth following
- Maximum three lines. Past that it reads as a personal essay, and biodatas are skimmed.
- No adjectives without evidence. Replace “fun-loving” with the thing that proves it.
- State dealbreaker facts plainly. Vegetarianism, willingness to relocate, wanting to keep working after marriage — these belong here, stated once, without apology.
- Write in first person, have a parent read it. If it makes them smile and nod, it is right. If it makes them frown, rewrite the frowned-at line — not your personality.
Where to put it: in our editor, open Personal Details → “Add field” and name it About Myself, or create a custom section. It renders as a normal row in every template.
