The standard marriage biodata format, section by section

1. Personal details

Fields: Full name, date of birth, time & place of birth, height, marital status, religion & caste, complexion, blood group, education, occupation, annual income

Tip: Lead with your strongest details — education and occupation carry the most weight. Write the date of birth in full (15 August 1998) to avoid confusion.

2. Horoscope (kundali) details

Fields: Rashi, nakshatra, gotra, manglik status, gan, nadi

Tip: Include this section if your family matches kundalis; otherwise it can be removed entirely — our editor lets you delete any section.

3. Family details

Fields: Father's name & occupation, mother's name & occupation, siblings, family type (nuclear/joint), native place

Tip: One line per member is enough. "Elder brother, married, software engineer in Pune" says everything needed.

4. Contact details

Fields: Contact person, phone number, email, city/address

Tip: Give a parent or elder as the contact person if that is who families should call. Share the city rather than the full street address.

Marriage biodata format — FAQs

What is the correct format of a marriage biodata?

A standard marriage biodata has four sections: personal details (name, date of birth, height, education, occupation), horoscope details (rashi, nakshatra, gotra, manglik status), family details (parents, siblings, family type) and contact details. A photo is placed in the header or alongside the details.

What is the difference between a biodata, resume and CV?

A resume/CV is written for jobs and focuses on work experience. A marriage biodata is written for matrimonial introductions — it highlights personal, family and horoscope details that matter when families evaluate a match.

Should a marriage biodata be one page?

One page is ideal — it is easy to read, print and forward on WhatsApp. Include only meaningful details; our maker has a compact-spacing option that helps fit everything on a single A4 page.

Is PDF or Word better for a marriage biodata?

PDF is better for sharing: it looks identical on every phone and printer, and cannot be accidentally edited. Our free maker exports a print-ready A4 PDF (and an image version for WhatsApp status or quick sharing).

What should NOT be written in a marriage biodata?

Avoid salary account numbers or exact addresses (keep it to the city), negative remarks, exaggerated claims and long paragraphs. Keep every entry short, factual and honest.
