Partner Preferences in a Marriage Biodata: What to Write (Examples)

The partner preferences section is the most misread part of any biodata. Written well, it saves both families weeks of mismatched conversations. Written badly, it reads as a demand list and gets your biodata set aside — however strong the rest of it is. The rule: describe a life, not a checklist.
What belongs here
- Genuine compatibility needs: vegetarian household, willingness to relocate, wanting a working (or homemaking) partner — the things that actually determine whether talks should begin.
- Broad ranges, not numbers: “24–28 years” works; “exactly 5'4”, fair, convent-educated” does not.
- Two to three lines maximum. Longer lists read as rigidity, and rigidity is the one trait every family screens against.

When career compatibility matters

When tradition matters

What silently offends
- Appearance demands — “fair, slim, beautiful” tells the other family more about you than about your preference.
- “Willing to leave job after marriage” — if this expectation exists, it is a conversation between families, not a printed condition.
- Income floors — “earning above 20 LPA” on paper reads as transactional, even to families who privately agree.
- Negations — “no divorcees, no manglik” phrased as exclusions lands harshly; state the positive (“first marriage”, “non-manglik preferred”) if it must be said at all.
